MISSION STATEMENT
Drama Labs is hell-bent on delivering profound, mature and emotionally resonant stories to a wide audience – all through the power of video games. Our latest (unannounced) prototype is breaking new ground with fast-paced, warm-hearted and adaptive dialogue that feels like talking to real human beings. Combining an open-world setting with intuitive gameplay and casual controls, we're ready to deliver well written, dramatic, and expandable stories to a broad audience of gamers and their families.

THE PROTOTYPE
We are developing a narrative adventure game featuring realistic human conversations, realtime combat, and an expansive open world. Our objective is to create meaningful and intricate narratives that are both captivating and accessible to a wider audience.
DramaLabs has developed an engaging and immersive dialogue system designed to simulate human communication. These dialogues are utilized to deliver gripping stories that cater to the preferences of a TV-drama audience. Accessibility and pacing are therefore key: Dialogues will be fully voiced, constantly interactive, rapidly paced and mercilessly adaptive to all the players’ questionable choices. In the background, our system will run complex dynamic calculations that will then present as simple, engaging user experiences on the surface. This strategy will allow us to tell a gripping story to a much wider audience without straining their attention span or compromising on truth or depth.
The theme is best described as a mystery adventure, set far in the future in a low-tech, hauntingly beautiful, open world that players will want to spend time in. It’ll be a vast land with sunny weather and lush vegetation – a place that people will enjoy looking at after an exhausting day doing tax returns or recovering from a dodgy meal at school. Despite its romantic appearance though, our game will not shy away from diving into the abyss of human behaviour. No savage act of violence will be sugar-coated or glorified. We will showcase all bloody aspects of the human condition. However, violence is not what we sell. Humans may sometimes settle for violence, but they ultimately gravitate towards kindness. So, it is our genuine, heartfelt, kind and emotionally intelligent conversations that will draw the players in and not let go.

Open World Philosophy
Storytelling and open worlds work together beautifully. Good stories can of course be told in almost any genre, but an open world adventure game offers reckless exploration, mind-boggling discoveries, unscripted adventures and plenty of room for personal growth. All of which are elements that work with our target-audience as well as our prototype’s “coming-of-age” story.

Simulation At Heart
Simulations of real life are a fantastic way of grabbing people’s attention and helping them believe your world. The trick is knowing what needs to be simulated and what’s a waste of resources. Without giving too much away, we can say that social interaction, day/night cycles, changing weather patterns and many other aspects of human life had priority in our simulation: Disrespect a blacksmith and he’s unlikely to sell you a sword. Also, you will not see a person standing on the same spot for very long in our game, especially not late at night when upright citizens sleep…

Sandbox Principles
A recent poll revealed that players of MMO and roleplaying games enjoy simple, repetitive tasks like chopping wood, baking bread, and fishing. So, we’re catering for all the hobby lumberjacks and resource gatherers out there and offer a sandbox-style economy that features all the gathering, crafting, provisioning and trading that players love to do on a Sunday afternoon. In combination with an overarching narrative that lends meaning to these efforts, these simple yet relaxing tasks will also serve a greater purpose.

THE TEAM
Our team of directors is made of veterans from the film, VFX and games industries. We are technical generalists with solid production skills, strategic minds and a proven track record for building and leading large teams. All members are dedicated to perfecting dynamic storytelling and going the extra mile to deliver gripping drama to new generations and existing audiences alike.

Experience & Accolades
Nobody likes bragging. But, there's no humble way of saying that we've been around the block a few times, that we've learned a lot of lessons in the trenches and that we've had some good successes on the way. Our preferred way for people to figure out if we can pull this off is by talking to us though. As they say in the world of investing: “past performance is not indicative of future results”. So, check out our fully playable prototype and have a good look at our plans and strategies for the future!
